Adolescence is a time of major transition in a person’s life. We understand how important it is to help teens and young adults develop healthy routines during this period and a pediatrician’s task is to foster healthy behavior among adolescents.

Adolescent health specialists have the necessary expertise to help teens and young adults with their complex behavioral, physical, as well as emotional health care needs.
Adolescent health service at MyCare Health Partners cares for everything during adolescence, from immunizations and physical exams to reproductive and mental health care.

As women are more exposed and prone to certain ailments such as breast cancer, it is crucial to stay on top of all changes in development. We help you understand your body and getting familiar with it as this helps to diagnose any potential problems.

Depending on the age of the patient these risks can intensify over time, which is why we want to establish a strong relationship and actively monitor our patients. Also, we strongly advocate for regular visits to the ob-gyn as this is vital for your overall health.

Men get their share of problems linked with their biological determinants and characteristics. Of course, age intensifies these risks. Having an up to date medical file and having your regular checkup helps you stay on top of all problems.

Visiting your urologist on a regular basis is something we highly recommend. The prostate exam helps to rule out potential malignant growth and harmful developments on testicles. Also, for the people above the age of forty colon cancer becomes an increasing risk. Considering these specific risks, we help our patients take the best care of themselves.

Our eldest patients are treated with personalized care and attention as we want them to keep their vitality and mobility. As adults age over 60, developing chronic conditions like high blood pressure, arthritis, cardiovascular problems, and osteoporotic changes becomes more common… Even patients who live healthy lifestyles are at risk since our bodies simply require a bit more maintenance to keep going strong.

We’ll work with you and the appropriate specialists to help treat your conditions successfully.

Diabetes is a growing concern in America, with an increased number of patients diagnosed each year. This trend has been noted in all age groups, as a result of poor life habits, including food intake and lack of physical exercise.

While adapting to living with diabetes can be hard, our team will aid you in this process, assess the severity, monitor the changes and help you get to the optimal state.

Managing this disease is a comprehensive process and is done through education, medical treatment, nutritional and exercise habits, as well as active monitoring.

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a common condition in which the force of the blood your heart pumps becomes too strong for the artery walls. In most cases, it is shown in readings as 140/90 mmHg or higher.

The usual symptoms include headaches, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), nose bleeds, suffocation, and exhaustion. However, hypertension can remain hidden for years, showing no symptoms, which can lead to serious complications such as heart attack, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, and others.

Diagnosing high blood pressure cannot be done after only one reading, so if the results are high after three readings or more, make sure to see your doctor.

The most common treatment for hypertension is changing your diet and lifestyle. Avoid drinking alcohol, smoking, and eating greasy, unhealthy food. It is also recommended to develop a daily physical routine, for example, a light cardio training for 30 minutes each day.

High cholesterol is one of the leading reasons for heart attack and stroke and when paired with high blood pressure, the risk increases dramatically. In elder patients, it is crucial to treat the symptoms and take all conditions into account in order to find the right solution.

While genes can worsen the condition of the patient, a poor diet is a predominant reason for the accumulation of bad fats. Medications or medical conditions can also cause high cholesterol. Adjusting your diet, taking regular blood samples, and monitoring the parameters after the therapy for potential alteration of the prescribed drugs all lead to a healthier state of affected patients.

Allergic reactions are almost always a consequence of inadequate response to allergens by our immune system. Whether the response is insufficient or overly aggressive, it manifests itself as an allergy through allergic reactions.

Dairy, peanuts, pollen, shellfish or any allergens for that matter, have to be treated seriously as some can cause a serious hazard to the patient’s health. Understanding the allergen and how you can protect yourself from being exposed, using antihistamines (allergy medicine) and adjusting your immune system response, usually helps in suppressing the symptoms.
For seasonal allergies, such as pollen and plant-blossoming, monitoring peak dates when the presence of allergens is the highest is another method of reducing the exposure.

Certain medical conditions, chronic ailments, acute diseases, or simply growing older are the main reasons why patients typically use prescription medication. It is important to note when two or more medications are being taken regularly, as there is a lot of room for error and incorrect usage. We can help you manage your therapy properly, and avoid your medicine being taken incorrectly.

The common cold and flu are often confused because of their similar symptoms, such as cough and runny nose. Typically accompanied by fever and chills, the flu can lead to more serious, like the development of pneumonia.

Other complications can lead to strep throat, bronchitis, infections of sinuses and ears.
In order to feel better and recover quickly, we recommend resting, drinking lots of fluids and taking over the counter medication, however, it is best to consult with your primary care doctor first.

Regular STD screenings are important for all sexually active patients as they often manifest themselves without noticeable symptoms. Their effects can often be devastating to the reproductive and immune systems and can cause more than just discomfort. All patients should be educated on the variety of these diseases and consult with their physician if they have any concerns.

STD screening means running laboratory tests, based on one or more samples from the following:

  • Urine samples
  • Blood tests
  • Fluid samples

Certain diseases can be detected through a simple urine sample. Others demand to take a blood test and in cases where sores and warts appear, a fluid sample is taken for further testing.

A poor and imbalanced diet, with too much sugar intake and not enough important nutrients, can lead to the development of serious health problems. Proper nutrition is closely related to an individual’s health and well-being. A well-balanced diet refers to including a variety of nutritious and appealing meals, while extreme diet modifications can lead to serious health problems, including diabetes, increased risk of heart disease, as well as long-lasting negative impacts on a person’s metabolism.

Balancing all seven nutrients (proteins, carbohydrates, fats, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and water), according to the patient’s specific profile and unique need for calorie intake, leads to a healthier lifestyle and prevents many diseases. Work on your plan with your physician and get the best out of your diet.

Clinical depression affects all socioeconomic groups, ages, and races, and is represented in men and women alike. It should never be treated as standard behavior. Screening for depression is always the first step in getting help. In adolescents and adults alike, depression impairs the quality of life and can even lead to suicide.

If you are experiencing a lack of energy, persistent feeling of sadness or restlessness, sleep deprivation, lack of appetite, loss of interest, fatigue, sleeplessness or too much sleep – you should make an appointment to visit your doctor and discuss your screening options.

Many factors can lead to alcohol abuse. An alcohol screening test helps determine if an individual abuses alcohol or has alcohol use disorder.

Alcohol screening is used to identify if a person is at risk of having specific health conditions, i.e., if an individual may have alcohol use disorder or is likely to develop or experience problems from alcohol use. It does not provide a diagnosis.

Alcohol screening in patients of all ages can be conducted through physical examination, discussion, and testing (questionnaire and lab tests). Nowadays, various alcohol screening tools are available and are precisely designed for specific categories, such as pregnant women or adolescents.

If you suspect that you or a loved one might have alcohol use disorder, please contact our team. We understand that having support in the process of coping and battling with this disorder is essential, and we are here to provide the necessary support to our patients and their families.

Immunization, or vaccination, is a process in which the body is exposed to foreign particles which are either deactivated or slightly active, leading to the creation of antibodies and overall improvement of the immune system.

There are four common types of immunization: natural active immunity, natural passive immunity, artificial active immunity, and artificial passive immunity.

Immunization for adolescents and adults includes the following vaccines:

  • Influenza
  • Human papillomavirus
  • Zoster
  • Varicella
  • Measles, mumps, rubella
  • Hepatitis A and B
  • Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Td/Tdap)
  • Meningococcal
  • Pneumococcal (polysaccharide)

Reach out to our team at MyCare Health Partners to learn more about the aforementioned vaccines and the benefits of immunization for adolescents and adults.

Minor lacerations, cuts, and wounds sometimes require sutures or staples as they help close the gap while enabling cells to heal and close naturally.

Depending on the size of the scar tissue and the severity of the cut, healing time can vary. When the time for removal of excess material does come, you do not have to go back to the general surgeon.

Our team offers professional, light-touched and painless removal, all the while educating you on the best medical solutions to improve further healing and decreasing of the scar tissue.

Ear wax problems can occur in patients of all ages due to a buildup of material in our ears. If you encounter similar issues, avoid using cotton swabs or any similar tools to get the wax out as this can lead to more problems by actually pushing the wax further down the ear.

The first step at the doctor’s office is always looking at the ear with lights and otoscope, determining the severity and next steps. One option is using the curet, a medical instrument designed for ear wax removal, or flushing the was out with the syringe filled with warm water. Recurring problems call for use of medication.

Most employees today offer free general biometric tests for their employees, and you should run these tests more often than full annual checkups, to stay in sync with your medical condition.

Biometric testing typically consists of height and weight measurement, BMI (body-mass index), blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels. Tracking these parameters falls in the domain of primary care, and should any of the numbers indicate further testing is needed, your doctor will direct you for further analysis.

Testing the said parameters while interpreting them together with your physician, helps you understand the full extent of your current condition.

If there is a reasonable doubt that a patient suffers from a certain condition or illness, diagnostic testing helps confirm or decline these initial findings. Some tests quickly confirm doubts and immediately identify the problem such as allergy testing, while in others such as diagnostic radiology or laboratory tests, the results have to be processed.

We offer comprehensive diagnostic testing services in all of our locations, interpretation of the data, help to our patients and potential referral to experts in the field for further testing and complex problems.

Lab tests are common tools in modern medicine, helping both doctors and patients detect the presence of a disease and its severity, reaction to therapy, level of hormones, presence of drugs, and many other things.

Whether a simple blood sample is taken to compare the levels with average readings of patients in the same age group, or if the test is specifically focused on finding a presence of viruses and bacteria, understanding the readings is vital in interpretation. Even with the general availability of information today, consult your physician on what to do next rather than reading the data on your own

Flu season peak calls for extra attention and protection. Influenza will not only keep you away from work and family but is also extremely exhausting and drains a lot of energy from the patient during the effect.

Rapid influenza diagnostic test is used to detect flu by using swabs and taking samples from the nose or throat. It takes no longer than 15 minutes to get the results, but it is not as reliable as the physical exam. Which is why we rely on diagnostics and the actual physical exam to confirm the presence of the virus and advise on how to treat the condition.

Rapid strep testing is a brief procedure used to confirm or decline the presence of streptococcus bacteria. This type of bacteria causes strep throat and other infections. Your doctor might direct you for strep testing if you show the typical symptoms, which deviate from standard virus infection. Sore throat, difficulty swallowing and presence of yellow (or white) spots are known indicators.

The test itself is brief and conducted with the quick smear of a cotton swab on the patient’s throat. Results of rapid strep testing are much faster than the full analysis of the throat culture, which helps either confirming or ruling this infection out promptly.

Urinalysis or urine test is laboratory testing of the patient’s urine sample. One of the most common and widespread reasons for urine analysis is pregnancy testing in women. This type of testing is often a part of routine checks and physicals, but more importantly, it’s the best tool in early detection of diabetes, kidney and liver diseases.

Besides the physical appearance of the urine and potential unwanted presence of blood, further tests get back results on bacteria and crystals typically not found in healthy individuals. Acidity, glucose, bilirubin and protein presence are also vital markers of unwanted changes.

PPD test is used for the detection of latent infection with tuberculosis. It stands for purified protein derivate of the tuberculosis bacteria. Tuberculosis or TBC is a contagious infection affecting the patient’s lungs. This type of bacteria can remain in a dormant state within the lungs for years, it is a form of latent infection.

PPD testing is conducted in two visits to the doctor: the first step is sterilization of the inside of the patient’s forearm and insertion of the PPD with the small intradermal injection. The second step (after 48-72 hours) is reading the results by measuring the change on the skin with a precise ruler. Tuberculosis falls into a category of rare diseases in the US.

EKG or electrocardiogram is a diagnostic tool used to check heart performance and signs of heart disease. Whether your cardiologist specialist indicated the need for this test or your physician found some concerns investigating, this is a simple, painless and reliable method for checking your heart rhythm, abnormalities (thick heart muscle), impaired blood flow to the heart muscle and most importantly – diagnosing a heart attack.

In this process electrodes are placed on the skin of the patient’s body, allowing the EKG to present a graphic image of heart performance. A portable device can be prescribed for longer monitoring, as it records heart performance for 24 hours and detects abnormal heart rate.

Pre-operative clearance is not just a process of getting a patient fit to undergo surgery. While controlling blood pressure and having good blood readings are equally important, the physician has to understand both the patient’s specific condition and known medical problems as well as the procedure for which the patient is being prepared.
Pre-operative risk can be greatly reduced and prophylactic prescribed aids in this process. Finally, it is imperative to reduce the post-operative recovery and hospital stay. Medical history, acute and chronical conditions must be known before the intervention and the elderly are almost always treated as higher risk patients.

“Have only been here once, but they were efficient, friendly and caring. The doctors are both friendly and take their time to talk to you.”
